Musk Eyes ChatGPT Developer 'OpenAI'… Offers to Acquire for $141 Billion – 블루밍비트

A consortium of investors led by Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, is reportedly interested in acquiring a controlling stake in ChatGPT developer OpenAI for $97.4 billion (141 trillion won).
According to a report by the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) on the 10th (local time), Mark Toberoff, legal representative for Musk, conveyed this acquisition intent in a proposal sent to OpenAI.
In the acquisition proposal, Musk stated, "It's time for OpenAI to return to being a positive influence focused on open source and safety, as it once was."
Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, immediately expressed his intention to reject the acquisition proposal on the social networking service X (formerly Twitter).
In a post on X, Altman responded, "No thanks. If you want, we'll buy Twitter for $9.74 billion (14.1 trillion won)."
Previously, Musk acquired Twitter for $44 billion (64 trillion won) in 2022.
In response to Altman's sarcastic remark, Musk replied to Altman, calling him a "swindler."
Meanwhile, Musk is known for his long-standing feud with Altman.
Musk co-founded OpenAI with Altman but resigned from the board in 2018 and sold all his investment shares.
After OpenAI released ChatGPT, Musk criticized the AI chatbot for being politically biased and founded his own AI startup, xAI.
